MyBuys Messenger - Spring 2009
Cell’s Corner: Personalizing More Customer Touch Points
Welcome to the spring edition of the MyBuys Messenger! We’re hoping spring brings with it better news for e-tailers. We know Holiday 2008 was a challenging holiday season, but according to Forrester Research, online retail sales still grew 13 percent last year. And they’re projected to grow 11 percent this year. Let’s hope that forecast plays out!
Given this climate, it’s more important than ever that you connect with customers to build loyalty, foster repeat visits and purchases, and boost AOV. Personalized website recommendations and email alerts are a solid foundation for that, but you may be missing out on other opportunities to personalize your communications.
Research shows that email newsletters get opened only about 15 percent of the time, but order confirmations and shipping notices almost always get opened. They’re a perfect place to insert product recommendations, which will be highly relevant because they’re related to the purchase already made. Too many merchandisers miss the chance to apply personalization at these customer touch points—and given shoppers’ current state of mind, every bit of extra motivation can help.
To enable you to capitalize on those transactional marketing opportunities, MyBuys is introducing a personalized recommendation service for your existing emails. Put them in order confirmations and shipping notices; in fact, put them in any communication with the consumer. It’s a simple implementation that will drive more revenue for you.
And if you’re an Order Motion client, we’ve made it even easier by partnering with them to make the whole process turnkey for you. So if you’re interested in linking personalization with order management data to enhance revenue opportunities at all customer touch points, just let us know. It’s a simple enhancement that can make a big difference in building stronger customer relationships.
And speaking of customer relationships, we’re looking to forward to seeing you at the Internet Retailer 2009 Conference and Exhibition—the biggest show in e-retailing—in Boston from June 15–18. I’ll be co-presenting with Erik Martinez of Peruvian Connection on June 16 from 4 to 4:30 p.m. on “Making Product Recommendations Work for Maximum Conversion.” We’ll cover both the art and science of making recommendations. If you’re planning to attend, you can contact your MyBuys sales representative for discounted tickets. We look forward to seeing you there!
Warm Regards,
